Hi As per title which type of underlay is better for carpet. We r getting carpet in lounge which has old carpet with concrete floor. We r only keeping this for 3-4 years so not too worried about longevity but more about comfort when walking and seating down.

For that is pu or felt or rubber underlay better. Thanks

Felt is the best underlay you can buy, it won't be too soft though, it will have progressive feel, give great insualtion for both sound and heat, and support the carpet very well.

Deep, soft Underlays will give you a spongy feel to the detriment of overall appearance retention and wear in the long term.

puFoam is favoured to rubber as far as soft underlays go, 9mm or 11mm being the better thickness to go for.

Personally I'd fit on felt whenever I could, but in 4 years, well, can you justify the price difference?
