There's only 2 carpet shops in this area & the warehouse one we wasn't keen on what was there. We've also previously bought from carpetright. I know that'll make some of you start swearing!
We're looking at carpeting the:
1) living room
2) Hall, stairs & landing
First off i'm wondering what sort of underlay should be used here.
Having a look at what they have in CR, their 'top' stuff is some £12.99 11mm "Red Carpet Underlay". It's pretty spongey stuff & feels real nice.
A bit of a google though throws up the exact same thing at almost half price from underlay4u.
They also priced up for the stairs the "Comfort Master 2015 Carpet Underlay 9.5mm" @ £9.99 (obviously m2). I haven't yet searched this but 1) i'm sure it'll be cheaper online and 2) i'm not sure if this is good stuff or what.
There was spongey underlay, rubbery underlay, but we've no idea which material is best for which room.
For the living room we'd want that nice 'walking on air' feeling but hopefully not to leave a load of marks on the carpet.
So basically just looking to see what underlay is ideal for each of these.
Also the carpet itself. I'm actually happy with the price of the carpet from there, but there was some at the exact same price which felt a tad thicker. If it feels like a thin carpet, what sort of lifespan would you be expecting? I was thinking against a really deep pile carpet as i would've thought through high traffic areas it'd 'mush down' over some years use. Also we don't really want to have to plane the doors down.
Advice very welcome.
