Anyone ever bought anything from Cash Converters?
Can you haggle with them over the price?

I saw an acoustic guitar that I liked, priced at 99 quid. Would they take a cash offer, I wonder?

Best of luck. If you don't try, you won't know. I suspect you'll need a more positive attitude than that, though.
Do you know anyone that enjoys the haggle, take them with you and split the diference. I find it's often worth it.

SWMBO almost embarrases me when she's haggling. I often have to walk out of the shop.

i would NEVER buy anything from them, the local one to me bought stolen stuff from junkies, there are systems in place to prevent this but they simply get ignored, like ID etc but they dont ask the junkies as they know them and the repeat budiness they take to these stores show it isnt their stuffi have hard and positive evidence of this as my house got burgled at 4pm on the friday and i went in there in the sat morn to ask the staff if i could leave a list of my stuff in case anyone came in, the guy said no prob we cant buy without ID etc and company policy is any dodgy looking deals means a call to the cops, great i said, went outside and saw 2 junkies approaching with black bin bags, turned and followed them back in only to see them selling my stuff to the same guy i spoke to, went tonto and both myself and my son got arrested for breach of the peace and unlawful imprisonment as we had the junkies by the neck till the cops came, the manageress of the store actually came out her office in the middle of the battle and told us to take it outside the shop as we were causing a scene, so no that nice guitar is probably somebodies pride and joy thats now missing

That's an eye opener. I thought they were strict about ID.
Sounds like they are the local "fence" for stolen gear.

there are prob 100's of stores countrywide and im sure if anyone hear has a family member who works in one they will show them this and say im embelishing a story, i was there, it was my stuff, it happened just as a described it, what i said was a fact but it is only one store and i honestly dont kow how wide spread it is, but without the support of scum at every level buying the stuff then it would die out and they would only stel purses and wallets for cash,

i have described the story a few times but just a wee quick bit of the conversation in the security room after the police came, ME "thats my video camera, i recognise it" SCUM "no it isnt its mine" ME to the cop "switch it on" then we all watch a short clip of my 4yr old twins in a majorca swimming pool, ME "if it is his camera, i want him done as a paedophile cause those half naked kids are mine" SCUM"eh eh eh i bought it last night" GGGGGGGGGRRRRRRR,
the only good bit to the story was after about 18 months of various court cases getting cancelled we got a letter from the fiscal saying case closed, found out via someone that SCUM dies of a drug overdose, so a result

During the summer riots, Cash Converters was broken into and all their stock was stolen... A spokesman said "We fully expect all our stock to be back on the shelves on Monday morning."

Their guitars are always way over priced anyway. Gumtree gets some bargains.

You can haggle with any shop you like. What you're doing is trying to change the terms of the contracts of sale they're offering to you before you enter into a contract. Nothing wrong/bad/illegal about that whatsoever.

Turn on the charm, you get very little if you
don't ask...

I refuse to go shopping for anything with my dad. He'll haggle them down for a bargain. Went with him once as he was buying a vacuum cleaner. He ended up talking to the shop manager and got £50 off the price, and an extended warranty for free. When the sale had been agreed on the display model, the assistant went through the back to find the packaging, returning ten minutes later, saying he couldn't find it. My dad then got a further £10 off the price.
Bloody embarrassing I can tell you. ;) ;) ;) ;)

Don't be embarrassed... you should be proud !! strong work !!

A few years ago I haggled in a Vietnamese market once for a hammock.
I told the locals that I was going out to but one and they offered to accompany me, but I said, No, I wanted to do it on my own.
I haggled the price down from 50,000 dong to 30,000 dong, (about 90p ! in todays rates.)

When I returned they said they could have got it for 20,000 dong ( about 60p !)
