my rover 400 diesel has been showing the emissions control light (shape of an engine) intermittently - with a corresponding loss of power - could this be a failure of the catalytic converter? - the cars done 140k miles
I think the fault is more likely to be in the exhaust gas recirculating system, air mass meter or turbo - but the fault will be logged as a code in the cars on board computer, and its worth having that read before you start throwing money randomly at it. At least it will give you some idea!

The trouble with Rover's is that the 16 pin diagnostic plug is wired differently to every other manufacturers, so you may have to find a Rover specialist who has the correct equipment to diagnose your vehicle.
