Apparently, it glowed bright orange and sparked a lot!

Another example of why the General Public should only be allowed electricity after passing an exam and manufacturers of lighting really ought to recruit designers who know what electricity is and how it works.

There's a shocking[sic] amount of electrical equipment out there which is unfit for purpose, some of which poses real hazards.

(And the regs say to follow manufacturers' instructions - what if the manufacturer doesn't know what 'he' is talking about; how is a lay person to know when the fitting instructions are wrong and dangerous?)
