Is this the correct way to install a catnic lintel? Or are the DPC and 'drip holes' unnecessary? Anything else which should be included as part of a installation?

Erm....your (lower) image is showing bricks UNDER the whole lintel.

There are no bricks under the lintel only under the bearing ends.

Haha! Yes, I got carried away with the copy and pasting . Have now edited.

Weep holes go in the perps.
Should they be the entire height of the perp? And how common is it to use weep vents such as these?

file.php

That shows 'mortar thickness', so unsure how they are used in conjunction with a brick facade, or a rendered one for that matter as surely the rendered wall will have lots of small holes all over the place.

The type you show is fine, but there are also manufacturers who do the full height of the perp sizes as well, thats what my local merchants sell.

You sit them flush with the front of the brickwork - it may look a little odd if your looking hard, but it looks much nicer than a puddle in the cavity!

As for the holes in the render, same thing really, they end up pretty flush with the front of the render, and only in certain places, ie over windows and doors where your attention is much more drawn to the item under the lintel as opposed to the vents above!

Plastic weep holes are marketing gold.

How they have managed to persuade people to buy and use these is amazing.

Leaving a joint out is obviously not good enough. Never mind the fact that moisture seeps out around the outside of the plastic weep holes, between it and the brick or lintel it sits on!

Ok, I see that how you finish a weep hole is arguable, but good to know that one is recommended.

Should a weep hole be created at each far end of a lintel? Slightly inwards? Or should there be more than two (depending on the lintel length) and spaced 'x' mm apart?
