Further to my last post re. UB lintel I have worked out that a catnic extra heavy duty will be more cost effective.

MY questions is though, the little diagram states on the inner skin the the void is a continues solid block infill.

what exactly does this mean? breeze blocks in the usual manner, or a single cast piece of something?

Also, it does not state if joist can sit directly on the lintel, does anyone know?

Cheers all

Yes, any block which is solid.

As for the joists, normally joists can't bear on these lintels and need to bear at least 225mm (one course of blocks) higher than the bottom of the lintel.

But check the details on the catnic site

so from that, given the height of the lintel I need CX50/100 and info as per catnic
http://www.catnic.com/lintels/CX50-100.aspx

height = 232 this means I need to have 457mm from bottom of liten (new opening) to the bottom of joist above?
I hope not, because I don't have that amount!

I have emailed catnic for advise as I can not find it on the website if joist can sit on or how far above they have to be.

From their guide

" Ensure that timber floor joists and roof trusses have a full block depth
between them and the lintel flange on Cougar Open Back Lintels"

So its one course not two

Sorry, I know this discussion is a bit old, but I'd like to ask something. The lintels I have appear to need 140x100x440mm blocks for infill. They don't seem readily available. Do I need to ask nicely at the builders merchants for them, cut 215x100x440 blocks or can I just use two rows of bricks?
