Caustic Soda

Having poured caustic soda granules directly down a washbasin plughole (I know it should not be done)I was distracted for longer than expected before pouring water down and it appears the caustica soda has solidified in the 'U'Bend. Have tried filling basin with cold and hot water but without success.

Can anyone assist with a solution other than dismantling the plumbing?
