Hello,

Had someone come round to check and he said my cavity wasnt wide enough. I have read somewhere that there is some new stuff they use for people with small cavities?

Does anybody have anymore information on this please?

There`s a couple in Scotland.......Ben Doon+ Phil Mc.Cavity......they do rising damp too

Never mind... someone sensible wil be along later ;)

Do you know how wide the cavity is? If not, measure (at a doorway or windowsill) how thick the wall is. If you know what it is made of, that might also help (brick/brick; brick/lightweight block, stone etc.). Sometimes, integral garages are unplastered on the inside, and that makes it easier to see what the inner leaf is made of. Otherwise, have a look in the loft space at the walls. You might also find that from the loft you can peer down the tops of the walls and see the open cavity.

Another method is to drill a hole in an external wall, that goes right through the first brick, and poke a bit of stiff wire through.

The man said they needed a cavity of about 2 inch and ours was only half that.

It is a standard mid terrace with brick both skins.

Hope this helps. :D

Old houses don't have cavities at all, what is it, exactly, you are trying to do?

con 1 uk, you were given good advice by the guy from the insulation company, take it.
It's what is known as a finger cavity in the north west, don't let anybody talk you into trying to fill it, you will almost certainly regret it.

If you want it to be warmer then use a small timber like 2"x1" timber studding, 25mm insulation board then plasterboard etc
