CCTV in a public premises and the LAW

What is the law on having CCTV in a public premises? i know a well known coffee chain which has 6 live dome cameras attached on the ceiling which are recording and no signs anywhere to say CCTV in operation.
I also have been told that if i was to ask the coffee shop for all footage of me in there shop they would have to provide it to me and also to blank the faces of anyone else in the footage, is this true?
