Hi All i was wondering if you could set up an IP cctv system in an office its over two building...Sounds daft the first bit as I know you can for individual buildings as that is what we currently have but our DVR has just given up and the boss (me) doesn't really want to buy a new cheap dvr they seem to only ast a year...

We have the following setup at the moment:
where the main internet comes in we have a TPlink plug that then send the internet two the second building if I plug a switch into this with the cctv attached will it do the following:

so to make it clear:

5xcctv cams -> Switch: Switch -> TP link Plug1: TP link plug1 -> TPlink plug 2 -> switch -> NVR in building 1 with 10 ports used available 6.

Will this work?

Thanks in advance

Andrew

Not sure I follow you.

What type of cameras do you have on your system at present as this is going to determine your options.

As long as the cameras are IP and the NVR is IP then it should work. If the cameras are PoE then the switch you add will need to be PoE as well. You'll need to check carefully (it's not always obvious) the power requirements of the cameras - at work we came across one that worked fine in daylight but couldn't run off PoE at night when it's IR LEDs came on.

Make sure your POE switch can handle all 5 cameras at their peak power consumption, plus some spare capacity.

Most POE switches can provide 15.4W per channel as a peak - not 15.4W for all channels at the same time. e.g. an 8 port POE switch may only be able to have a total POE power output of 100W, even though it can send 15.4W down any channel.
