Hi

apologies if this in the wrong thread - this is my first post

Basically the ceiling light fell down (kids sleepover pillow fight)

Wiring is all ok - but I cant get any screws in as the plasterboard rawl plugs fell out and have left ridiculusly big holes -- to accompany holes that the homes previous owner must have made!!

So what do I do???

Any help is greatly appreciated

thanks in advance

Welcome to the site and Electric UK forum.

Can you make other fixing points in the ceiling, or do you have access to the area above the ceiling. (such as loft space or lifting carpet and floorboards.

Another option would be to repair the holes and hole again.

Hi welcome to the forum. What you need to buy are spring toggle fixings for cavity walls

Hi
thanks for the response

I have no access from the area above the celing

I cant make new holes as any new hole would just merge into a the old ones

I had repair the holes in mind but not sure what to use in order to make it strong enough to be put new plasterboard plugs in

Hi, you don't need access from above and you may be able to use the existing holes. Try u tube for a video of how to use cavity fixings.

If I was repairing holes, to re-plug. I would use dry-wall adhesive and set plugs in to the wet compound and leave to dry. But dry-wall addy is about £10 ber bag and bags are 25kg. So probably best to get some gripfill in to hole. But ideally I would repair holes will filler and relocate fixing points for lights, into undamaged plasterboard.

If in doubt, post a picture of the damage and we can advise better.

Try the Building forum, or Plastering & Rendering as well - this is not an electrical problem. Yes, electricians may well have encountered this problem, but ATEOTD it's a generic ceiling plasterboard repair one.

Site rules frown on duplication, so try to make it different ;)
