Ceiling repair

Taken down a stud partition in a large room this has left a gap across the ceiling where the woodwork was. The existing plaster was plastered to the edge of the wood.
Tried to patch it using ready mix plaster no good.
Would a 'proper' plasterer be able to repair it or will the whole ceiling need a skim?

Can we have a picture, what have you put in the gap before you used the ready mixed filler, or did the existing plasterboard fly over the wall (was the stud wall put up after the ceiling was boarded)?

Yes! otherwise there will be a scar across the ceiling.
