The shower tray that I bought has diagonal edges so it is really difficult to apply the Mapei waterproofing tape before applying liquid membrane to the joint between the tray edge and the wall. I filled the gap with CT1 which has provided a waterproof seal. Can I just apply liquid membrane over this joint up to the masking tape without the Mapei tape?

If I were to put the tape it would come too far forward that would be visible after tiling.

You'll be fine doing what you suggest, just tank the walls and onto the tray up to your masking tape. If the tray is solid no water will ever get through. I'd take the masking tape off though as soon as you paint the first layer of tanking and before it sets. Apply more masking tape before the second layer.
