We seem to have this recurring problem whereby if we put on the immersion (to bath) and the heating is on at the same time, it trips the thermostat. It then needs to be reset. Does anyone else have this problem and how did you stop it happening (other than not having the heating on at the same time)?

Also, we ran the water so as to drain the tank with the tripped stat, and turned the immersion back on for an hour on bath, (without the heating) and it heated the water to a tepid temperature! How could this happen if it is supposed to be tripped? Does anyone have this problem too? And can anyone solve it?!

Thanks

Sounds as if you have a faulty thermostat in the immersion heater to be honest.

Although i would not rule out faulty cylinder stat allowing the boiler to continue firing and causing the water to heat up and trip the immersion stat..

Or a combination of both.

The tepid water you are getting could just be down to latent heat left in the coil.

Thanks. That sounds right. The plumber who put in the cylinder and fixed other bits and pieces says it's an EU regulation that there are trip switches fitted and that this happens regularly which doesn't really make sense. Surely all tanks would trip then?

Thanks though.

Is the heating system main switched fuse outlet spured off the immersion heater circuit in the airing cupboard?
