Hello,

I moved into a new house fitted with a standard F & E heating system with an indirect Cylinder and I'm having issues working out how the system controls operate. I use a Drayston LP control panel that is set to control the water by two separate controls, on the single panel. The issue I have is when using the hot water controls and turn the hot water on, my central heating turns on also.

When using the heating control, turning the central heating on does not turn on the hot water.

Hope someone can explain why this is happening.

Show us pics of the controller and any motorised valves on the pipework. Motorised valves are smallish boxes on heating pipes with electric cable connected to them. Often found near pumps and hot water cylinders

Thank you for your quick reply! I've attached pictures of the Control Panel and the Motorised Valve.

I did some additional research following my original post and think I might have to replace the MV.

When selecting central heating only on the programmer ( control panel as you call it), I assume the heating comes on . If it does I would expect the domestic hot water to also be heated ,what makes you think it isn't ?
If indeed it does, then the valve needs replacing as the gate isn't fully closing under spring pressure.

Just did some further testing and you are correct, both the central heating and hot water are on in both instances. When I have a closer look at the motorised valve head, I can see that the hinge is stuck almost half way.

Do you think I need to replace the entire piece, or just the electric head?

Remove the programmer from the back plate and ensure the switch on the back is set for a Y plan. The switch on the back should be set for P for pumped.
