Central Heating Controls Wiring

Hi All,

I am looking to change my old wired thermostat and Potterton programmer for the new Wireless Hive 2.
I currently have a conventional boiler with a separate hot water tank.
The new receiver that replaces the programmer needs the below wiring:

And this is from the current Potterton programmer:

Question is, where do the old wires go to the new receiver (diagram).
I believe on the current wiring, wires 3&4 are connected to the thermostat.

After fitting the Hive receiver the old CH Room thermostat wiring will need a slight change, otherwise you will have two room thermostats trying to control the heating.
If you can post pictures to show the thermostat wiring in the wiring centre I'm sure someone will tell you where to connect a link to bypass the old room thermostat.

There currently is no wire in slot 2 and slot 5 looks like a permanent live bridged from L.

My current programmer has 1 - 5 slots and new one only has 1 -4.

You don't need that Potterton short red Live link (in #5) in the new receiver and #2 is still not used.

I thought i could just connect the two wires in the current thermostat together to give it a permanent live.

Ok, Just to mix things up.
If I were to choose the Nest thermostat, i would need the below wired, looks a bit more complex.
Any ideas with regards to the wiring?
I believe mine is a Y-plan system.

I'm a little puzzled as to why you asked for this information though, because you have answered your own question. I just looked at the wiring diagrams that you have posted, and wrote the numbers down.

When it comes to adding the remote thermostat, you can wire it to T1 & T2 for its power supply, or alternatively, you can simply plug it in using a power supply that will come with it.

The existing room thermostat would need to be removed from the circuit in the same was as discussed earlier for the Hive.

Although when you say

That won't be correct as wire 3 relates to the control of the hot water!

T1 & T2 to the thermostat (you can reuse your existing thermostat wires in the wiring centre for this)

I ended up ordering the Hive 2 this morning from Amazon on a Black Friday deal for £119 delivered... Brilliant price I think.
Unfortunately the Nest 3rd Gen is still at £249...
