Hi
We have a Potterton Statesman oil boiler of some age, it works fine and is serviced regularly. Recently the hot water circuit seems to be behaving strangely. The controls on the programmer have both Radiators and hot water on auto and we are in an "on" period. The boiler fires and runs for a while, everything seems ok. However after a while the boiler will fire in response to something, burn for a few seconds, maybe 15, and go off. Alternatively the boiler will fire run a while then switch off, howver the motorized valve is still open and the pump continues to run. If I turn off the auto on the programmer the valve closes and the pump stops. Any ideas whether it is the valve or boiler stat which is faulty or something more sinister? Water is getting hot, radiators are working, wife tells me water sometimes gets too hot.
Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated, it just feels wrong that something mechanical is starting and stopping or running when it doesn't need to.
Thanks in advance.
