central heating is staying on even when the boiler (heating and hot water) are turned off

When it got very cold last year the central heating stayed on even when the boiler (heating and hot water) were turned off.
It went back to normal but last night the same thing happened. I turned everything off but the house is so hot I could hardly sleep.
Any ideas?

2) Don't keep the details about your ch system a state secret. You need to give details of boiler make/model, system type (combi or hot water cylinder, etc), controls/programmers/timers, valves, stats, etc, etc.
