Hi there,

I have just noticed a banging / nocking noise in my back bedroom that starts the second the heating is switched on. The noise comes from several places under the floorboards in the room and the radiator itself. As the ambient temperatures are dropping we've decided to bring the heating on before we wake up in the morning but the past few days I haven't needed an alarm clock because the knocking noises from the heating system are sufficient!

One thing I have noticed in addition to this is a gurgling sound on boiler start up from the rad in the room but I have bled every single rad on the system and there hasn't been a drop of air from them. It is a combi boiler system by the way, Vaillant 831ecotec which was installed last August 2012. The boiler itself is very quiet. The system was flushed when it was installed but not 'power flushed'.

The past few months I have had rads off for decorating but I have always hosed them through and topped up the system with corrosion inhibitor.

I cant belive the noise is pipework expansion as the pipework hasn't changed and the clicking / knocking noises start the second the boiler starts so the pipework will still be at ambient / standstill water temperature. The noises do stop after about 30 to 40 minutes.

All the upstairs rads are fitted with new TRV's (salus), downstairs are just lock shields.

I'm going to try and isolate the rad in the bedroom tonight and see if it effects anything.

Any help / advice would be massively appreciated as I have annoyingly just had the whole upstairs carpeted and don't fancy lifting it all up to investigate under the floor boards. This would be a last resort I guess.

Thanks in advance
