hi All,

I am just about to begin installing a bunch of thermostatic radiator valves on my home central heating, but the existing plumbing seems very inefficient. Is it possible to have upstairs and downstairs running on separate circuits, with some kind of valve distributing the boiler output between the two circuits?

The boiler is a baxi duotec combi.

Thanks,

Russ

yes you could have 2 2port valves one controlling upstairs one downstairs - whether this is the answer is not for me to say.

Yes you can zone your heating,

You will need to have 2 room stats and 2 zone valves, one for upstairs and one for downstairs and a 3channel programe 1 channel for the hot water and the other 2 for the heating. The Horstman H37xl is a good one.

See link below for spec...

Great stuff, thanks o2bfree! Can you recommend any particular valves?

Thanks again,

Russ

you won't need 3 channel controller as water is instant unless your thinking of also having stored.
Zone valves-honeywell 2 port

Honeywell 2 port motorised valves.

Get the normally closed ones (as opposed to the normally open ones when valve unpowered).

You may consider having seperate room stats, one for each zone. You can wire this into the circuit from the programmer. Or you could get 2 programmable room stats.
