Hi,

I am fitting some fitted wardrobes and need to fit a narrower radiator to accommodate.

Just taken the floorboards up and faced with plastic pipes in 20mm. A bit of googling and the entire house is plumbed with this:

I need to move an outlet about 50cm, so need a way of adding some length and steering / bending the pipe to suit.

In a simple world I'd like to cut the pipe and use some push fittings and a new bit of pipe to get to where I need to be, but this seems like quite a rare set up and I can only find 20mm fittings for cold only MDPE pipe.

What's my best approach here please? Can I use MDPE fittings or any other advice gratefully welcome!

If its the pipework to a radiator are you sure it's not 16mm?
Some clear pictures including connection to rad valve would be useful.
If pipework is the type you have identified its a press fit only system.

Hi,

Thanks for reply.

See pics. No doubt about it. Measured it at 20mm OD.

Press fit only, where can I get the fittings?

Just realised that press fit doesnt = push fit!

Have I got any hope of doing this DIY? I guess the easiest solution would be putting a 15mm end on it, but can I do that without specialist tools?

In a word, no.

You need a press gun with the right jaws for the fittings. The fittings are specific to the pipe.

You might ask Roth who stocks their "Laserrohr" local to you, and then ask that stockist who buys that piping system. That person will have the right gear! Most plumbers won't.

Thanks.

Sounds like a right ball ache.

Is there any point in even trying to fit one of these?

20mm OD is 20m OD right?!

Err no good way to have a leak totally wrong fitting.
Try following advice above its probably as good as it gets.
Unfortunately there are a number of press fit systems about and they are not compatible with each other.

Time for some lateral thinking, perhaps?

How is the existing radiator connected to the Roth piping? It must transition from 20mm plastic to something more akin to 15mm copper for the valves' compression inputs I'd have thought?

Can one re-use or adapt that to extend to where you want? Maybe not as neatly but when push comes to shove...

Thanks Rodders - the same came to me. I was trying to work out how to convert the pipe to 15mm and then realised it already has a 15mm tail on it, and with some careful drilling, notching, twisting and bending I can put a 15mm push fit on the end of the existing radiator tail, then run plastic pipe in a loop under the floor to get me where I need to be! Simple in the end!!

Thanks all for help!
