We have a regularly WB boiler (with a Megaflo for HW, 14 rads mainly with TRVs and Wiser controls) and are having 2 distinct problems. Firstly, must add that following a misdiagnosis by BGAS about 3 months ago WB came out to check the boiler and it was fine then - it was subsequently serviced without issue just after.

Oner issue is a couple of weeks ago and now most days since (but only mid mornings) about 2 hours after the boiler has come on for the CH, we get a loud shuddering/chugging sound through the pipework, loud enough to believe there's a helicopter overhead. I've a video recording of this if need be, but it's so loud, we turn the boiler off and restart it 30 mins later and then (apart from one day) it seems to settle down. Could be worse as it's a cold spell, or that could be conicidence I suppose. (this issue didnt happen today - Sunday - the day after I got the last rad of our 14 functiomning,- wasnt in use, as TRV not workig as valve pin stuck down. maybe this was the issue?)

The second issue is most days the CH runs fine all day (we work from home) until this last week when usually around 5pm each day the CH goes off and we can't get it to come back on again, although some eves the CH fires up again immediately we turn the HW on, but goes off once the HW goes off. Always the CH comes back on late at night (when HW is off)!

We are wondering if any of this could be linked to the boiler itself. We called a central heating engineer out a couple of days go as the day before both HW and CH failed to stay on, and he checked the pumps and valves in the airing cupboard next to the megaflo and thought everthing looked good, he said not worth looking at the boiler itself as WB checked it and serviced it 2/3 months previously. Plus, the fused spur wires had melted at some point and with that fixed it might solve the issue (he didnt comment on the helicopter noise issue) - the fused spur wiring was fixed and circuit tested the next day,but it seems to have made no difference. Any thought, anybody - thanks.

It sounds like failing motorised valves, the noise could have been the trv, but if still doing it could also be the motorised valve

Likely, a TRV fitted on the return side of a radiator, rather than the flow side. When you hear the noise, check each radiators TRV, try adjusting it up or down - then if the noise stops, you have found which one.

Check the time and times set on the heating time control.

Thanks Chris the noise seems to have stopped (maybe the waether warming up by seceral degrees and/or by my finding a little used radiator with its TRV valve 'pin' stuck in the off position.

Thanks Harry - makes no difference unfortunately - even if the programmed times were to blame we should be able to manually ovedrride the heating going off, but we cant - thinking about getting the ch man back in who installed the system in April, in case it's awiring issue or he can tell if the actual Wiser hub unit (ie progrmammer) is faulty.
