Hi,

I have recently developed a problem where by the central heating does not want to run independently of the hot water, so when the hot water has reached the required temperature the boiler shuts down.

The system uses a Honeywell programmer and motorized valves and the boiler is oil fired.

Any one got any answers or advice?

Regards,

More than likely the heating motorised valve is kaput ,its opening but not enough to reach the microswitch within and bring the boiler on so when the hot water is satisfied that valve closes and turns boiler off thus heating as well

Hi,

Thanks for your rapid reply. the valve that controls the heating does make a light buzzing sound when working would this be the motor on the valve or the actual valve itself?.

The valve is a two port Honeywell 8922 model.

Steven

You need to check if the orange wire from the heating valve is live when the hot water is off.

Hi,

When the hot water is off and the central heating red light is illuminated on the programmer the orange wire is not live, if the hot water is switched back on and its red light is lit on the programmer the orange wire from the central heating valve is the live again.

If possible change just the Honeywell valve head. If not you will need to swap the entire valve.

The orange to the ch valve is live when HW is on as the HW valve orange and ch orange are connected together.

Hi,

Thanks for both replies I will change the motor tomorrow and give you all the results after.

Once again thanks to everyone who offered assistance.

Steven

If the heating is working when the hot water is on the valve must be opening. Therefore the synchron motor must be working. It's either a worm mechanism not allowing the valve to open fully or a faulty end switch. Either way you need to change the whole head not just the motor.

Hi,

Changed the motor etc. this morning and bingo the C.H. heating is now working independently of the H.W., happy wife and warm house.

Thanks once again to everyone who offered advice, brilliant!
