CH fine, intermittent HW

I have a Potterton Flamigo 40 boiler with a Potterton EP2000 control box.

Central Heating works fine but every two days or so the hot water stops heating - usually after the CH has been on for an hour or so (at 18 degrees on thermostat). Therm. on boiler reads 60 degrees.

Can get it working again by turning the room thermostat up to full, turning the Central Heating back on and then off again - just wondered if anybody knew the reason.

If forcing the CH to come on (requesting both CH and water at this point because water is not hot) gets the water heating as well, sounds as though your 3 way valve is not always returning (normally under spring loading) to the 'water only' position, but is being motor driven to the CH & HW position ok. New Valve.

how do you know they have a three way valve
