My CH programmer honeywell ST1700, has started to make a buzzing sound when he hot water comes on. I noticed there are 2 black components that look like relays which I think may be the source of the noise. Is it possible to replace the relays or will I have to buy a new programmer, if a new programmer is required which honeywell one is compatible.

In principle it is possible to change the relays, but nobody would bother because they may not be easily obtainable. If you want to cross reference part numbers on the RS website, maybe.

If ST1700 is a two channel prog, and you don't need volt free terminals, then there a squillions out there, but the best is the Honeywell ST9400C in my opinion. Different shape, wiring is compatible.

Cheers Simond, . Have you known the relays to failbefore beause I was thinking there may be a fault elsewhere thats causing the relays to buzz although saying that the noise stops after a while.
Not 100% sure what a 2 channel programme is could you please clarify.

2 channel has a heating setting and a hot water setting.

Single channel just has a heating setting as for use with a combi boiler.
