CH to loft conversion

Looking to see if its possible to extend the CH to a loft conversion.

Current boiler is on the first floor and supplys the rads on first and ground floors. Loft conversion had been in place for maybe 10 years and has electrical storage heaters that are pants.

Is it possible to extend the CH up a floor with the boiler on the first floor? If not is there any addon pumps that could help?

yes you can do this no problem as long as you can gain access. you will probably have to convert the system to a sealed system if it wasn't done when the loft was converted.

I did to my loft conversion. You need a sealed central heating system, unless you header tank is above the new radiator in the loft.

You will only be able to convert the system to a sealed one if the boiler manufactures permit the boiler to be on a sealed system. A sealed system also has to have 5 main components

!) boiler overheat cutoff device
2) pressure relief valve
3) expansion vessel correctly sized to the system
4) pressure guage
5) filling point ( loop / top up bottle)

Agreed, converting from vented to sealed has to be a proper job.

If your CH system isn't a sealed one, the cheaper option would be make sure the header tank is higher than the highest radiator. If its not already then - a timber frame to raise it, some copper pipe and a few straights.
assuming there's some room in the roof space to do it. It should work without an extra pump being needed, although a higher flow might help the downstairs rads if they need it.

As you have the electrics already there in place for night storage, why not just upgrade your electric heaters, they have improved so much lately and don't look that bad either.
