Chain of light bulbs with mains socket

Hi there,
I'm new to this forum and hoping someone can help.
I am making some signs with light bulbs in like old fairground signs and I am wanting to make the a chain of 10 E27 golf ball style light bulbs to mount onto the sign. They need to plug into the mains and have an on/off switch.
Hoping to get some advice here-
What kind of electric cable should I use and how can I wire them up?
I am using basic E27 sockets to hold the bulbs.
I'm a good solderer but usually make effects pedals with 9v battery so I'm not familiar with mains projects and want to make sure I make a light chain which is safe to use.

you could make it easier if you were able to use a pre -wired festoon set.
