Chamberlain garage door opener

hi guys
Just bought a Chamberlain electric garage door opener with ‘bow arm’ for our canopy type garage door.
Wife complaining her muscles are getting too big !
The current door has a large enclosed circular type spring over it to ease opening (see attached) which is right where I need to attach the bracket for the runner track.
Qu : can I just remove the old spring - carefully !
