A few weeks ago i cleaned out my condensate trap on my valiant boiler. Ever since then i am noticing the boiler is loosing pressure.

It was at 1 bar the other day, so i put it back to 1.3 bar and 2 days later it is now down to 1.2 bar.

Does anyone know if the condensate trap could the the source of my problems ? It was harder to twist back into place. I might need to have a proper look and take off the internal boiler cover.

nope the condensate trap can not cause the boiler to lose pressure, o.1 bar differential is perfectly normal, you are worrying about something that is not there

Yes but 0.3 after a few weeks. I will keep monitoring and see how it goes on.

Nope, the condensate trap is connected to the main heat exchanger section of your boiler and drains the water away that is created by combustion and subsequently condensed out of the flue gas by cooling.

Ok the boiler is loosing pressure. It shouldn't be dropping 0.2 in a day.

So i think the issue is the EXP vessel. It seemed very low, so got it up to about 1 bar. Lets see if that sorts it out. It hasn't been touched for about 6 years, so really i need to watch this a bit more now. The boiler is coming up to 12 y/o in spring. Going fine generally.

More importantly, are you certain that you put the condensate trap back properly, without damaging the seal? You mentioned it was hard to put back. If it isn't fitted correctly, carbon monoxide can escape into your home as the trap is part of the flue system. It should really only be removed and refitted by qualified, trained professionals, and should be done as part of your annual boiler service

What did you use as a drain point when pressurizing the expansion vessel ?

I didn’t drain down the boiler. Just ended up adding 0.5 bar to the overall pressure.

I know you need to drain the boiler down first but I ended up just trying to add a little pressure back in.

everything is going ok so far, so will see how the pressure stays in the next few days.

no co issues
