Change direction of floorboards

I've finally gotten around to tearing up the carpet and replacing the landing floorboards.
They're full of nails and staples so would take days to pull up and sand, plus the boards aren't in great condition.

The current boards are sideways but I'd prefer them longways - is there an easy way around this?
would it be possible to use small joist hangers in-between the existing joists and cut down timber to fit?

Probably wouldn't work with doors and stairs and other room floor heights, but I'd be wondering about overboarding...?

Notice your floorboards are supported left, centre and right......if you want to change their orientation you’d need noggins galore.

Yes, you could use joist hangers to achieve some of this, but what would you do around those pipes, for example?

i think I’d have to cut all the doors / skirting if I put the boards on top.



it’s only for the landing so I’m fine with noggins / joist hangers.

Would the noggins need to be as thick as the original joists ? Or could I get away with 40x70 timber with hangers?

Ah I didn’t think of the pipes further up. looks like horizontal floorboard it is then

I had another random thought - fix a length of wood running each side of the existing joists, set at floorboard height below the top of joists, then cut your existing floorboards to span between them, then run your long boards on top.
having just written that - I've got a better idea - leave it as it is!
