Hi, I have this lock on the bathroom door but want to change it to a thumb lock (is that what you call it) where there is no actual key, just a turning knob. I don’t suppose there is a way to change it without changing the handle?
If you do this, take out the old lock and measure it precisely, and obsrve any brand names or marks, it will be easier if your new lock is exactly the same dimensions
However, another way would be to take away the key so no-one can lock it, leave the existing lock and handle in place, and add a bathroom tubular mortice bolt
Thanks for the response. I’d rather keep the old handles as they are all matching. So would I need to open up the existing lock and replace with the tubular bolt and then would the release knob fit on top where the existing lock hole is?
You can either replace the old lock and handle, or you can leave them in place and add the deadbolt and turnbutton knob as an addition. I'd suggest higher up the door where it will catch the user's eye.
