Change to metal light switch

Hi there,

I currently have this set up with a plastic light switch which I want to replace with a metal light switch that has the connections of common, L1 & L2.

I am wondering if the current L1 wire would go into common and the L2 wire go into L1 of the metal switch.

In addition, the metal back base is earthed, would I need to install a new earth wire from the base to the new metal switch or leave the back unearthed and connect only to the switch.

I'd do this.

or leave the back unearthed and connect only to the switch.

But some do this.
