changed from strip lights to spot lights.

Can anyone throw some light on this one..
I replaced a strip light with a x3 spotlight unit, and now have no light.
I have two reds which are in a block together and live,
I have two blacks, one is live when switch is on the other is not live.
I wired the live (black) to live on the spotlight unit and the other black to neutral and of course the earth to earth.
And nothing, I tried changing the blacks around and still nothing, unit has been changed fuse checks out ok and theres even power at the bayonet
and bulbs are ok.

The switch which controls the light you are working on, does it control any other lights in the same room?

Can you remember how the old light was connected?

What are you using to test for voltage?

Do both contacts on the lampholder appear to be live?

Could you unscrew the switch and tell us what wires there are and how they are connected.

Hi RF, the switch controls only the light I am workin on, the old light had the two reds in a block connected to nothing, I am using just a test (screw driver with light), and I think both contacts on light holder are live, the swith is a pull cord with red and black (black is live and red is not live) hope this helps.
