A couple of months ago we had a radiator moved to the other side of the living room, and new TRV and lockshield valves fitted by the builder. Prior to removing the old valves the builder went into the loft to do *something* which meant that he did not have to drain the system.

Now we'd like to change TRV and lockshield valves ourselves on a couple of other downstairs radiators without draining the system, however we never found out how the builder managed it last time.

The answer to this is probably really simple but I haven't been able to find it searching the Plumbing section of this forum. Can anyone shed any light on this?

22mm pushfit cap over open vent, bung in cold feed. Open drain off with hose attached, when water stops flowing shut it again. Now change your valves one by one.

Reverse when finished..
