We have a system boiler and a 20 year old Drayton LP112 controller so heat and water on/off times are the same.

Have been considering upgrading to a Drayton 722 which would be a straight swop and give us different timings for heating and water but this still requires us to be at home to push the buttons. Would like something where I could switch heating remotely an hour before we got home.

Would a Hive Active Heating system (eg Screwfix 246jk Hive Active V3 wireless heating and hot water smart thermostat) do this and would it require any more than changing the current controller and thermostat for the Hive units (and of course setting it all up).

Are there any better alternatives?

Yes, a Hive dual channel receiver (Screwfix 246jk) should be a direct swap for your old Drayton Controller.

However, the connections to your existing thermostat will need to be bridged out (or the thermostat permanently turned up to maximum!), to allow the Hive to function correctly.

Thanks, knowing the wife she will want the thermostat on the wall where the existing one is, there are TRVs in most rooms.

will probably bridge out the thermostat to avoid it confusing her.
