The dryer belt broke the other day. The mrs just unplugged it ready for me to fit the new one and she noticed the neutral on the extension, and the dryer plug has started to melt. Digging around the net I have learned you should not really be using an extension with a dryer.

2 questions I have.

The dryer plug is sealed, do I just need a whole new lead for the dryer into the back of the dryer?

If I must use an extension with the dryer, what am I actually looking for in the description when I buy one to make sure it is safe enough for the job?

You can just cut off the old plug & fit a new one as long as you are capable. Using an extension lead is ok with any appliance as long as it is correctly rated (13A ) & not coiled on a spool, you have to fully unwind them.
