Channel drain stone path

Looking to get some advice on putting in a channel drain in the path at the back of my house.
The path is stone slabs, not sure if removing the whole slabs is necessary or if I should just cut them then remove the part where the drain will lay?

I’d cut them, dig deeper than the channel then knock the channel down onto a concrete mix.
