Some mornings, around 5am, we get awoken by a loud cracking nosie coming from the bathroom in our house.

I think this is caused by something contracting as it gets cold - the radiator in our bathroom has no TRV so it is possibly one of the hotests rooms in the house, and so I guess there is quite a temperature drop by this time in the morning.

I'm trying to determine what the cause of the noise is (I posted in the building forum) - I am hoping it is nothing to do with the tiles!

So my question here is how would you tell if this was causing problems to your tiles? I mean if it was the sound of adhesive coming off or something. I am probably just over paranoid, but wanted to check.

you could hire a private detective to sit in your bathroom at regular intervals and keep notes, take pictures and then you should know for sure what the noise is.

alternativly have any of your kids got an indiana jones whip?

I continue... so if you deduce that it is the tiles, are you going to remove the lot and redo it because of a noise? Geddit?
So..... if it's not causing a problem, why bother about it?

Are there tiles close to the radiator?

If so check those first by tapping them,if the adhesive is failing the tiles will sound hollow. If they are on a plasterboard wall this could also create a problem if the rad is getting really hot and no flexi adhesive was used.

It was the "determining if there is a problem" thing I was curious about, but I completely see your point.

There are tiles close to a radiator, and it is plasterboard, so I will check those. Thanks.

I am sure it's nothing, but it's odd hearing noises in your house if you don't know what's causing them.

Didn't think to ask before, have you only recently moved there?

Does you central heating system kick in around 5am?

No, but we have just had the bathroom redone.

We don't have the heating on in the morning as we are up and out within half an hour (and it's quite noisy), which made me think it was happening when things were getting cold.
