We have been bought a chilean potato tree (Solanum crispum Glasnevin) as a present for our garden. It is labelled as harmful if eaten. Does anyone know how harmful as I can't easily find anything on the Web. My concern is we have a 13 month old daughter so if it is highly toxic I may avoid putting it in anywhere and swap it for something else.

I had one of these when my two children were small and had no problem. I wouldn't worry if I were you. As someone else has pointed out these are great plants - I've still got mine - and I use it as a climber but have seen them grown as shrubs. Mine is planted alongside the white variety 'Album', which is far more delicate, less vigorous, and more of a climber. Watch for caterpillars as, unfortunately, these do not appear to be affected by munching large quantities of leaf!!
