Following the upgrade last year of our central heating (new boiler & rads etc) we have replaced our solid fuel stove with an electric flame effect one.
I have had the chimney capped with this:

6th one down --- flue ventilator.
We have located the electric stove where the solid fuel stove was --- ie set inside a 'mini inglenook' type fireplace so I have left the tin plate in place and duck taped over the flue hole to prevent heat loss. Made a couple of small holes to allow some ventilation.
Is it necessary that I get the chimney swept?
Haven't done so yet which in hindsight perhaps I should have done before having the top ventilator fitted but not really a problem in that there was a weather cowl fitted before and this didn't cause any difficulty with previous sweeps.
