Hi there, I had my roof done last year and chimney flashing replaced on both sides - the house is a terraced and our neighbours had theirs done at the same time. We have leaks coming in from the corners of the room (it’s an attic bedroom) also - there’s an unused fireplace with a lot of grit falling in and a couple of the bricks are soft and spongy - as in you can press your finger in them. The bricks painted white and when raining heavy moisture comes through. We have asked the roofer to come back out but the soft brick is very odd? I’ve also contacted a chimney sweep as we only moved in 8 month ago so it’s possibly not been done in a long time.

The flashing needs looking at, water ingress is a roof problem.

A damp chimney structure can be a different thing.

Rain water dripping in ........it's roof problem, don't worry about a bit of rain coming down the chimney. Soft bricks forget about it but just an age thing.

You need to ensure that the chimney is ventilated if any of the fireplaces have been bricked up ....vents need putting in.

I don't think your roofer has done a good job. A complete new rood is building control notifiable Check he's qualified to self certify the work .......I can't remember the name of the body that roofers should be a member of but a quick Google search will reveal them.

You can Check if he's qualified to self certify. Found it ........
