help we bought a old house and it appeared to have no chimney stacks after buying we noticed massive damp issues that the old owner had kindly hidden with artex and pink paint. aarrgghh. We investigated the damp and found that there are fire places in the house 6 infact with internal stacks.
all bricked up and all full to the top with the chimney rubble that was there originally it looks like they just dropped the rubbish down when they took them down..
They have all been opened and were full of wet rubbish , this has been removed.
we have bought a wood burner but as there is no chimney on top of the house, we can see where they have taken it off in the attic and just extended the roof slate over it. what can we do? we have contacted chimney people but seem uninterested in fixing this ...
is there an alternative to have a stack rebiult on top of the house..... ???
also on looking at the wall the upper chimney breasts look as if they are set out from the wall by an inch? is that ok ? not bulging as it looks as if they are all set out. is this ok?
many thanks
