chimney removal

We would like to have our disused chimney removed from our property. We live in a detached bungalow with a dormer roof extension consisting of three first floor bedrooms. The chimney is in our lounge downstairs and not attached to a party wall or outside wall. The stack goes through our daughters bedroom and on through her ceiling to the roof.

Is it likely we would need planning permission in advance for this work?

I appreciate building regs is a requirement.
