Chimney support

A chimney breast, which was in the corner of the room has been remove from the ground floor but not above it.
Does a cantilever chimney support need to be as deep and as wide as the rest of the chimney above.

i personally advise the removal (where applicable) of the whole chimney, top to bottom. otherwise steel gallows should be used and structurally engineered.

it would be fair to assume ALL unsupported masonry will need securing, so yes to your query. then again, i'm no structural engineer and haven't seen your chimney or what is above it.

The chimney from ground floor was removed 30yrs ago, if a support is now put in place, does it require an inspection on completion by the local council?
