Chips in tile paint

An old bathroom decor has chips out of the tile paint. I can't really afford to gut the bathroom until next year or so, but want to spruce it up. If I paint over the tile paint, where there are chips, it's going to be seen.

Do you think it's possible to smooth down the chips? Or will I need to remove the paint? I don't want a massive job on my hands.

Leave it alone, live with it. Removing paint from tile is an endless fiddly job, and more tile will possibly be chipped and scratched.

The rule is: never to paint tile.
