but it is not what you think.

do you suppose that if we had the freedom to choose the sex of our offspring, that many of us would?

i guess a lot of couples opting for more than one child may leave the first child to chance, then opt for the opposite sex on their next child.

i wonder what the majority choice would be if couples were only having a single child? maybe no majority - 50/50perhaps.

In not many years time they will have a shortage of young women and an excess of young men. I suppose rape, kidnap, prostitution and homosexuality will increase, and a good old-fashioned war might use up some of the spare men they will quite likely be more violent anyway in the absence of women and family life so some of them will end up in prisons

While that may happen to an extent, what generally happens when men outnumber women is what we would regard as old-fashioned values, a somewhat lack of promiscuously, adultery, divorce, even sex before marriage. As it swings the other way and women become equal or greater in numbers you get sexual liberation of women, and they act like bridget jones or characters from sex in the city. Its somewhat self perpetuating as well, as the folk more likely to select in favour of a boy child are those where traditional values are practised
