Hi
I plan to replace old rotten entrance double gates.
I intend to paint them.
The existing gates are solid but I do not know what kind of wood they are made from only that is a light coloured wood (not pine).
Can any one suggest the best wood to use which will weather the best, and what precautions to take to protect against rain and warping.
I have been browsing the internet for framed, ledged and braced door design plans as I am not sure how the tongue and groove panels fit neatly flush with in the frame rails.....but can find nothting as solid as the current gates. The Frame uses mortice and tenon joints with diagonal braces which are inset at an angle into a centre rail.
Any advice would be appreciated, book names etc
Thanks in advance
