Christmas music

I have to ask, are you multi-tracking this? It sounds a little like you are playing the chords and melody on separate sessions.

Sounds great though!!! :D What "genre" of guitar are you using? Being primarily a bassist I find it a bit fiddly to use anything except a classical guitar for "proper" playing... but I have a Les Paul that I like to strum (Epiphone, not a proper Gibson).

I've spent the afternoon learning some Status Quo songs for next Saturday's "Status Quo are cancelled but we're bl**dy well going to hear some live Status Quo songs Goddamit" recital.

Needless to say I'm picking them up rather quickly ;)

Keep up the good work, and if you can record "Another Rock'n'Roll Christmas" then it means I can sing along to one of my favourite Chrimbo songs without being accused of listening to kiddy-fiddling music.

Yes. It's not a secret. I'm not pretending to be a one man band.

I put the chord track down and then played along to it.

I used Adobe Audition.

The guitar is actually my cheapest (less than £200). It's a Gibson L5 copy but I put a pair of Bill Lawrence pups in it and set it up correctly.

It needs new strings but I'm too lazy. Glad you like it.

New strings... I love having new strings. Fortunately bass strings seem to keep tune quicker than guitar strings and last longer. But they cost 4 times as much for a set.

I asked, because I was listening thinking "what hand position is he using for this?!"

Good to see someone else isn't afraid to set things up by themself. I spent ages getting the action just right on my bass. Never considered doing it until I played a friend's identical instrument and found it to be 100 times nicer than mine!

Here's mine then:

I disclaim that this is the first take from no practise, is not produced, was recorded via a webcam, and I had to dig splinters out of my 3rd finger on my left hand with a needle today. Oh yeah and on a really rubbish guitar (the low E is particulary heavy), not my proper classical one.

Perhaps this is why we liked Joe's stuff ..He let his fingers do the talking !! :D :D :D

Very nice. Have you just recorded them? I like the walking bass on the last track.

Yes, I recorded them just now. The walking bass is my own addition to the score. It's supposed to be G G G G, but I changed it to G F#dim, G, G#dim. Leads nicely into the Am, I think. Sometimes I get bored of comping and add new chords in. "Hey, I spend my whole life looking for great new chords" (as jazz muso might say - ahem). I played in a big-band for 2 years. Phew them different unusual chord shapes on every beat.
