Sadly for all the children who suffered, it is emerging that the abuse and coverup is an evil that has been proactively done with the consent of the vatican some say, Hence the stupid apology.

I personally am shocked by the scale of it.
The catholics among posters here must have had some experiance, Im sure there must be somone who knew something.

I'd like to remind you that in the Vatican City, the age of consent is 12. Seems a good way to vindicate the actions of the priests - make it legal in the motherland.

Apart of course from the minor detail (no pun intended) that priests are supposed to give a vow of chastity which precludes any sexual act. For anyone to be caught out and not excommunicated is a complete contradiction of this fundamental precept of being married to the church - and we all know their views on divorce .

Welcome to the Holy Roman Catholic Church's way of thinking

I can see why the same people might think it ok to brush this under the table so their 'God's rep on earth' gig isn't blown.

Sorry to come back to this one again, but the problem CJ is that "not every single catholic priest is NOT fiddling with his entire boys choir you know.."
 
I don't know but I'm sure the protestant pastors don't have to do the celibacy thing. I could be totally wrong.

It's wholly unnatural and would definitley cause deprivation.

I wonder how the Nuns fare? :eek:

You are correct, they do not have to, they can marry. Infact during the catholic/protestant back to catholic back to protestant days in England preists got married then had to give up their wives and then were allowed them back....imagine THAT conversation over dinner..."erm wife...the pope called...and well...you may want to sit down" :p

So is the whole concept of priesthood "unnatural". Also, with regard to deprivation - "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen"

I bet you do. Personally I don't make a habit of it. ;)
 
this is pretty mad. there's schizo and nuke bouncing around between all the 'morality' issues like a couple of novice preachers. what is it with these two?

Mine eyes have seen the glory..... :LOL:

My attitude is take a stance, see where it goes. If it holds water then fine. If not, then admit defeat, apologise if in error, and withdraw.

With the exception of catholicism (my decision on this is final), my only fixed opinion is paradoxically that one shouldn't have a fixed opinion.
